Went out with Jonathan today to get him back to the mindset of fishing. He’s been going to school for almost a month now and with our Funfest Striper tournament coming up this Saturday, I wanted to make sure he still knew how to reel in a fish! Fortunately he got some practice even though the lake was as packed as I’ve seen it all year. The boats were out big time along with 3-4 foot waves throwing us around non stop. Still we fared well all things considered boating 8 and missing a few that weren’t taking the lure hard but instead just pecking at it. When this happens you’ll get a lot of “nibbles” that don’t stick when trolling and we had at least 4-5 which is a lot in one day.
Took out Jonathan and his buddy Nick for a short afternoon trip today. After spending the first half of the day in school, I thought they might like to hit Lanier and catch some Stripers. I knew the time wouldn’t be ideal but I felt I could boat a few and it turns out I was right.
Got out with Rick Thursday the 22nd of July and we did well. We scored fish by trolling and jigging. All the action came mid morning and mid afternoon. The total to the boat on the day was “lucky 13″ with 8 fish trolled and 5 jigged. I feel we did exceptionally well since we really weren’t on a bunch of fish at any one time. However, where we fished we seemingly fished well based on our results. Additionally, the fish were big. Most were 9-12 lbs and I jigged up my big fish of the year thus far – a Monster 23 lb’er!
Jonathan and I hit the lake this afternoon for a quick trip. I figured we’d be able to catch a few fish between 2-5 PM and I was right. The prime was at 3:00 and though it was a Friday afternoon, I thought we’d manage the boat traffic Ok and it turned out to be a good bet.
Well, once again Jonathan has outdone himself. We were on the fish good and low and behold, he hooked and landed a giant Striper. I still can’t believe it’s over 30 lbs but the photo’s and video I took are proof positive. What a day!!
